Last week marked two years since mine and my partner’s first date and so, of course, we wanted to celebrate (please, don’t throw up – it’s not always this mushy, I swear).
We decided we would opt for nothing major, so we headed into London for a quiet but fun evening of food and theatre – two of my favourite things.
Before heading towards Leicester Square where we would later take our seats for two and a half hours of hilarity with the fantastic cast of The Book of Mormon – honestly, if you haven’t seen it and are a fan of satirical, near-the-knuckle humour, I simply can’t recommend it enough – we went for dinner at Maxwell’s Bar & Grill in Covent Garden.
I’ve been there a few times before and this latest visit cemented what I had already suspected – it’s definitely my favourite American-style restaurant in London. And here’s why…
The food. The food. It’s so good! HUGE flavours, decent portions and a great barbecue selection. I started off with deep fried halloumi in this delicious buffalo sauce, oh man, it was so tasty! Followed by a BBQ chicken chop salad, presented in a huge bowl bursting with colour, and with so many different ingredients and textures. Oh, and a side of onion rings – I’m ordering a salad for a main, sure, but I’m not completely crazy…
Not only is the food great, but the prices are totally acceptable for a busy central London restaurant and the staff are brilliant – our waiter was so lovely and attentive, by the end of our meal the bill’s discretionary tip was well overdue.
All in all, it was a lovely night – and we all know anniversaries are a great excuse to stuff your face together anyway.
